Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange information between a website hosting server and a client. Due to the fact that the data exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of controlling a hosting account. The commands which could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the possibilities are limited because you shall not have root access to the web server, so you may only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They are all actions which are performed in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to install server-side software or to restart the machine or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, which you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Web Hosting

SSH access is offered with all Linux shared web hosting we provide. With some of them, it is provided as standard, while with others it's an additional upgrade that you can include with a couple of clicks in your website hosting Control Panel. You can get SSH access through the section dedicated to it in which you will also find the details which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can pick the password which you shall use and, if needed, you shall be able to change it with several clicks from the same location. All commands that could be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article together with relevant instances. If the SSH access function is permitted for your account, you'll also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

You will be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account via SSH no matter which plan you select when you sign up. With some packages, the function is offered by default, while with others, it may be included as an extra upgrade for as long as you need it. You can find the needed login details within the Hepsia Control Panel, provided with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You can select the password that you'll use and if you would like, you could change it constantly with several clicks for even better security. You shall be able to see all the commands that you can use upfront, as we've listed all of them alongside examples of how they are used so as to execute a specific task. Once SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is enabled, you shall be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
